Embarrassing moments: Horse tripping

It was one beautiful Sunday when I decided to attend a horse-racing event. I was dressed the part and was really having a good time. It had been announced that the best-dressed lady would walk away with a prize. Taking a glance around I was almost sure I was the one to be named the finest. As the audience sat on the terraces cheering, I took the opportunity to go and buy myself some ice cream and let the crowd judge for themselves who the fashionista was. On my way back from the vendor, I felt that the crowd had not seen enough of me, so I decided to hang around in front of them, so that they could feast their eyes on my fashion sense. The next thing I knew, I was down and eating dust! The ‘pole’ I had leaned on was actually a circular banner! I got the wrong kind of attention…I wished I’d remained seated.

Sandal snap

I had left college in town one evening, and on my way to the bus stop, I tripped on a pavement and one of my sandals snapped. It was the up town area of the city, where one cannot bump into a cheap street cobbler anyhow, there was traffic and everyone seated in their cars and in buses were watching outside. I just had no choice but to remove both my shoes. They were the somehow heavy-soled and I did not want to hobble with only one shoe. I was smartly dressed and people in the streets seemed to be wondering how an ordinary-looking girl had decided to walk bare feet in the city! I could not explain to each of them, so I just attempted to ignore the stares. I had never understood why some of my friends would carry an extra pair of sandals in their bags until that day. Unfortunately it is the day they were either unreachable, not picking their phones or really far. What was more embarrassing is that I met my mum’s boss, some former high school mates and an ex, all at different intervals as I made my way home. Oh Gosh!

Dude interrupted

One day walking home from campus I felt my stomach rumbling and gas building up. I knew soon enough I would have to find a toilet to relieve myself but since I was halfway, home I chose a bush. It was worse than I thought as I shelled my guts out. The smell was equally suffocating. Unbeknown to me, a crowd of kids had gathered behind me to witness my humiliation. I only noticed they were there when they began to giggle. I quickly tried to stem the flow and put on my shorts but it was too late. I had no choice but to run all the way home with soiled shorts as the kids chased me chanting " foo-foo-foo mavi!, fooo-foo-foo mavi|!"

Teenage love affair

When I was a teenager my parents decided to relocate to a new hood in Nairobi. I was a new face and soon became the talk of the estate with some guys even branding me the preetiest chick. Of course this went to my head and I begun acting like I was going to be the next Miss Kenya. My father was very strict and he hated the attention the neighbourhood boys were giving me. There was this one guy who I had my eye on. He was the hottest jamaa in the hood and he could also drive. Unfortunately, the day he finally came to see me was the day my dad decided to come home early. He found us kissing on the sofa set. Not only was my "teenie" chapwad in full view of everyone, my punishment was much worse. My dad sent me for some scissors and had the house help cut off all my hair. My head looked like a war zone when she was done. I didn’t come out of the house for two months but the story had already done the rounds and I was the laughing stock for months to come.
