STL vs Rat-a-at

By Caroline Nyanga

Pulse: What is the name of your last single?

STL: The Dreamer. I’m sure you love it back home.

P: If you were in the ghettos like Rat-a-tat would you ever survive by singing themes like I am a dreamer and the stuff that you do?

STL: Why not? I wrote The Dreamer to let people know that dreams do come true no matter who or you are. All it takes is self belief and not only working hard, but clever!

P: A section of female rappers are known to be vulgar. What do you call men in your songs?

STL: Buy my debut album Living For Music and you will find out.

P: If you were to rate rapper Rat-a-tat out of ten. What would you give her?

To be honest with you.. I hate it when I am put in the spot and asked to rate other artists. I think Rat-a-tat is a great artist representing the females. We need more of us.

P: Who is the most weird dude you have ever dated?

STL: I don’t date weird guys. Lol! If I do go out on a date, I make sure I really like the guy first.

P: If you woke up one day and found you were Rat-a-tat, what is the one thing you would change?

STL: Nothing much. I would keep on trying to be the best I can.

P: What do you think of someone promoting themselves locally but rapping in English?

STL: As long as you believe in yourself, keep on keeping on.

P: In your opinion who is the best female rapper alive?

STL: There are so many! Salt n Pepa, Mc Lyte, Queen Latifah, Lauryn Hill, Lil’Kim, Jean Grae, Shwanna, Eve, Foxy Brown,Lady of Rage, Rah Diggah, Missy Elliott, DaBrat.. I love all female rappers who aren’t afraid to stand up and say: who said this is a guy thing? Now that’s what’s up!

P: If you were to be put in an island to fight with Rat-a tat describe graphically how you would beat her up?

STL: There wouln’t be any fight cause I simply don’t believe in using violence towards other people.

P: Have you ever smoked SLD?

STL: What’s that?

Rat-a-tat

Pulse: Have you ever killed a rat?

Rat-a-tat: Nope! I have never killed a rat. And even if I were to come across one I would rather get rid of it by sending it outside the house. In other words, I treasure all lives.

P: What is the name of your last single?

R: Ningekuwa Charli. Funnily enough just as we were in the process of working on it, BeyoncÈ had done her English version, but it’s all good. Watch out for the video soon

P: If you were abroad how would you roga the odieros?

R: I would roga the jungus the pure Kenyan way and still keep my Kenyan Rat-a-tat flava. You know how I do it.

P: A section of female rappers are known to be vulgar. What do you call men in your songs?

R: I respect people. And for that reason I like keeping it clean and real. My motto has always been do to others what you’d want them to do unto you.

P: How would you rate rapper STL out of ten?

R: STL is one lady rapper I give mad props besides respecting her skills, rhymes, flow and stage performance. I would give her eight.

P: Who is the most weird dude you have ever dated?

R: Well girl, that’s kind of personal. Nevertheless I still respect him na anajijua.

P: If you woke up one day and found you were STL what is the one thing you would change?

R: Why all the questions with STL? Let’s say maybe adding more nativity in lyrics like

language use...swahili ni treasure yetu. Let’s make it more international ama?

P: What do you think of Kenyan someone promoting themselves abroad and rapping in English too?

R: Well there is nothing wrong about it so long as what they sing has good message in it.

The content must be in check. But they should always remember that too much of anything is dangerous — English is neither our national language — nor is it Kenyan.

P: In your opinion who is the best female rapper alive?

R: A person who is capable of pulling and rocking a crowd while still keep it

real in her literature.

P: If you were to be put in an island to fight with STL describe graphically how you would beat her up?

R: This question is too sensitive. Further more I am not a violent person and would not even think of beating up a fellow rapper. I hope I’ve answered vizuri. Stay blessed girl

Verdict: Hell no, gal. In spite of dat ‘Rat-a-Whatever’ name, you’ve been too mzuri. And you must be dreaming if you think we buy that crap ati Beyonce beat you to Ningekuwa Charlie. And talking of dreaming, STL must be hallucinating if she thinks she has won this one. This is ‘Celeb vs Celeb’, ladies, and this must be like the most boring one ever, ever.

Like one of those nil/nil draws Arsenal likes these days. So, STL – nil. Rat-a-tat: Sufuri. Na hizo GTV dishes zenu? Tumia ka sufuria kubwa.
