I will attend BBI conference in Mombasa despite threats, says Murkomen

Senate Majority Kipchumba Murkomen says he will attend the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) conference in Mombasa on Saturday 25 January despite being threatened.

Through his social media handle, Murkomen revealed that he had received threats that will see him being denied a seat or even get heckled should he stand to talk.

Although he did not reveal the name of the person who threatened him, the legislator said that he will still attend the BBI conference for the sake of uniting the country.

“I have been threatened that if I attend the Mombasa BBI meeting, I shall be humiliated by being denied a seat, not being allowed to talk, or even if I am allowed to talk, I shall be heckled."

“If that's what it takes to unite this country, so be it, and I am ready to absorb. Tukutane Mombasa,” said Murkomen.

For the past few days, Murkomen has been at the forefront in leading the Tangatanga team towards joining the BBI journey.

“I would like to welcome all leaders to the BBI meeting in Mombasa this Saturday. We shall be focusing on the unity and development of this country and not sideshows about 2022 and discussing individuals.”

“We will be participating in all public BBI rallies across the country, and this weekend, we will be in Mombasa together with the BBI team,” said Murkomen.

The BBI forum in Mombasa, which will be held at the Tononoka grounds, will be the third forum on the BBI calendar.

After Mombasa, the next BBI forum is scheduled for Meru or Embu on 2 February, which will be followed by Garissa, Eldoret, Suswa, Kiambu, and finish with Nairobi.

Yesterday, Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka said that he would rally his team to attend the BBI forum in Mombasa.

In a press release, the Wiper party said that they would take part in the Saturday meeting, adding that their leader, Kalonzo Musyoka, had not attended the previous BBI meetings due to commitments.

“Mr Musyoka will be accompanied by several MPs and MCAs, mainly from his Wiper Party, who has also been drumming up support for the initiative in various parts of the country.”

“Mr Musyoka’sMusyoka's absence in the past two BBI forums in Kisii and Kakamega has been due to commitments to official duty that have seen him out of the country during the two events, owing to his position as Kenya’sKenya's Special Envoy to South Sudan,” read the press release by Wiper party.
