Opposition leaders have been urged to stop banking on political goodwill and their supporters to pursue their selfish interests.

Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi  told Azimio la Umoja One Kenya leaders to desist from misleading their supporters for their selfish gain.

He regretted that many Kenyans have been blackmailed to support the anti-government protests.

“We have singled out a number of leaders who are specializing in using their communities as a source of defence to buttress their political greed and self-interests. This should not be allowed to happen in democratic country.” said Mudavadi

“Leaders should not be allowed to misuse the citizens when advancing evil agenda and try to blackmail a community, while when they have achieved their goal, they forget about the people,” he added.

The Prime Cabinet Secretary urged Kenyans not fall into the oppositions’ trap aimed at distracting the government from implementing its agenda.

He was speaking in Mwatunge, Taita Taveta, on Sunday, where he joined President William Ruto for an interdenominational thanksgiving and prayer service.

“We want to end the politics of deceit and blackmail, where people want to use Kenyans to advance their selfish interests. Elections were won by President Ruto and no blackmail or ill-motive will distract the course of the governments’ plan on economic recovery and citizen empowerment,” said Mudavadi.

“The President has stood firm. He is serving all Kenyans equally. He took an oath to work for every citizen. Those who have completely refused to embrace reality are scared of the plan the government has. They have resolved to engage in destruction of property and peace in the country. This is totally unacceptable,” he added.

He challenged the opposition to tell Kenyans what they are offering as an alternative to the current situation in the country.

The Prime Cabinet Secretary said the only way to ensure the country gets back on the path to economic recovery is by Kenyans supporting the President.

“The people who got us in the mess we are trying to fix are the same people who do not want us to work for Kenyans. We are working hard to seal the loopholes including the huge public debt they left this country in. We have said we need to rally together as Kenyans and generate our local revenue domestically so that we reduce the economic pressure that came with unplanned foreign borrowing,” he said.

Mudavadi urged the people of Taita Taveta, to support the government's agenda as the region is a major transport corridor to Tanzania.

“You are very instrumental as a county towards the growth of Kenya’s foreign exchange. I urge you the people of Taita Taveta to be good ambassadors as the trade between Kenya and Tanzania plays a crucial role in bolstering our economic demographics,” he said.

“Let us count our blessings and use them wisely as Kenyans. The future of our nation lies in our hands, we are the ones to develop our country and nobody will help us when we turn into destroying our beloved nation,” he added.

The Prime Cabinet Secretary said the county has produced many prominent leaders who served in the previous governments and urged the residents to tap into the opportunities being presented by the Kenya Kwanza administration to transform the region and their livelihoods.

“Taita Taveta people should know that your journey with government has been far much better through your leaders who have previously served in government. Truth be told since also some of your leaders have served in the opposition but that story has not been of any success to the people.” he said.

Mudavadi urged Governor Andrew Mwadime to work with President Ruto’s administration for the benefit of the people.
