Transferring Kilifi police will not solve the issue, Kalonzo says

Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has criticized the government's move to transfer senior security officers in Kilifi County.

This was after Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki announced a mass transfer of security officials in Kilifi County on Friday.

Speaking during a church service at Cathedral of Praise Ministries church in Imara Daima Kalonzo said transferring senior security officers in the county would not provide a lasting solution.

"Transferring Kilifi officers is not enough. There is a problem, something basically wrong because this is something that has happened over a long period. We must ask ourselves questions," Kalonzo said.

"Instead of chasing us in the streets, the police should be investigating the deaths," he adds.

Kalonzo even made a reference to Mama Ida Odinga's past utterances that attracted criticism when she called for the regulation of churches in 2022.

The Azimio council member also downplayed the Nairobi police boss' warning that asked the coalition to keep off street demonstrations.

He has also reassured the coalition's supporters that the street protests will go on as scheduled, despite police calling it 'illegal'.

The former vice president says if the bipartisan committee agrees, Azimio will review its position.

"My advice to my brother William Ruto is to get SC Otiende Amollo and the Kenya Kwanza co-chair. Let the duo sit, discuss, agree and announce by tomorrow that they have agreed on. Then maybe we can review our position,"
