Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Deputy President nominee Martha Karua has said together with Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Peter Munya, they will protect interests of Mt Kenya residents should the coalition win the election.
Ms Karua said the decision by Azimio presidential candidate Raila Odinga to pick her as his running mate was an indication that he had interests of the region at heart.
Speaking in Meru, yesterday, when she led Azimio brigade to drum up support for Mr Odinga, the Narc-K leader said they were out to deliver 90 per cent of votes.
"With Munya and I, Mt Kenya interests are safeguarded in Azimio government. Raila has shown his commitment to Mt Kenya by picking me and Munya," she said.
Ms Karua was accompanied by Mr Munya, Public Service Cabinet Secretary Margaret Kobia, Kieni MP Kanini Kega, EALA MP Mpuru Aburi, Nyeri Deputy Governor Caroline Karugu and Meru Woman Rep aspirant Gakii Mbui.
The Agriculture CS took the team to various towns including Timau in Buuri constituency before addressing residents at Kiirua, Makutano town and winding up the tour in Northern Meru.
He said Mr Odinga was not driven by greed for power but to ensure Kenyans enjoy their rights.
"He has been in the forefront to address the plight of poor Kenyans and he is not driven by greed for power," said Mr Munya.
The CS highlighted the Azimio presidential candidate's agenda including Baba Care geared towards providing affordable health services and the Sh6,000 monthly stipend for the most vulnerable.
"All his life, Raila has fought for rights of Kenyans. When you see me in Azimio be assured your rights are protected. I don't joke with work. I cannot be where rights of Kenyans are not respected. With me, Munya and many others, we will push your agenda," Ms Karua said.
She noted that Mr Odinga has a history of fighting for Kenyans' rights when he was in and out of government and had built a good reputation in Africa, leading to his appointment as the continent's infrastructure boss.
Mr Munya said the Azimio presidential candidate appreciates the fact that the region depends on agriculture and he has given him an additional role as Chairman of Kenya Productive Sector.
Jubilee Party deputy leader Kinoti Gatobu who is seeking to recapture the Buuri parliamentary seat urged voters to elect Mr Odinga and Ms Karua, saying they will ensure more development projects to build on President Uhuru Kenyatta's projects in the area.
