Politicians from Western have asked three presidential hopefuls from the area to unite and support one candidate in the 2017 elections.

They asked Amani National Congress leader Musalia Mudavadi, Ford-Kenya's Moses Wetang'ula and Cyrus Jirongo of the United Democratic Party to agree on one candidate to support if they want the region to produce the next president.

They were speaking during the funeral of former Transport and Communication Assistant Minister Seth Lugonzo that was attended by Messrs Mudavadi and Jirongo.

Senator George Khaniri (Vihiga) asked the three leaders to unite and give political direction to the community, which he claims has the numbers to have an impact on the race to State House.

Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale said the three leaders should unite for a reason.

"We must work with other communities in the country to defeat our common enemy. We want to remove Jubilee from power," said Dr Khalwale.

MPs Emmanuel Wangwe (Navakholo), Ayub Savula (Lugari), Benard Shinali (Ikolomani) and Alfred Agoi (Sabatia) said the three leaders should work together instead of supporting other regions.
