Senator Hassan Omar: IEBC team recipe for violence

Mombasa Senator Hassan Omar

MOMBASA: A senator has said the electoral agency’s continued stay in office is ‘a catalyst to violence’.

Mombasa Senator Hassan Omar said most Kenyans had lost faith in the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) and that it would be difficult to convince them to accept the election results next year.

“I say that IEBC has lost credibility and the commissioners’ continued stay is a catalyst to violence. They are seen as a partial player and I urge them to exit but if they will not, then we will exit them,” said Omar. The senator said Kenyans were yearning for peaceful elections next year and that can only be achieved if IEBC can regain credibility and the trust of all Kenyans.

“Kenyans do not have trust in IEBC to conduct a violence-free and credible poll, thus grounds for any party to contest the results. I know some of the commissioners are my Muslim brothers and I ask them to be an example and quit,” he said.
