Nairobi, Kenya: President Uhuru Kenyatta is expected to host MPs from Kisii and Nyamira counties Wednesday morning at state house.

A text message, seen by The Standard, which was sent to all MPs from the Kisii community indicates that the meeting will kick off at 10am.

“Hon. Members of the National Assembly and Senators Kisii and Nyamira Counties and the Diaspora, you are hereby invited to State house today  Feb 12 for a meeting with the President,” an SMS sent by South Mugirango MP Manson Nyamweya read in part.

The MPs are seeking audience with the head of state to protest over what they believe is targeting of professionals from the community who have been allegedly victimised by sacking from the civil service as the community did not vote for the Jubilee administration.

The MPs want to appeal to Uhuru to confirm Dr. Simeon Monda who is the acting CEO of Kenyatta National Hospital and assure them that any professional who is serving the public sector is not hounded out of office.

“There is a general feeling among leaders that professionals from the Kisii community are being summarily dismissed from office and thus we decided to petition the president on this matter,” Kitutu chache south MP Richard Onyonka told The Standard online.

He cited the former CEO of the Rural Electrification Authority (REA) Zachary Ayieko and former National Housing Corporation Isaac Mogaka who have since been replaced. Energy Cabinet Secretary Davis Chirchir failed to renew Ayieko’s term at the helm of REA while Mogaka’s term at NHC was terminated through the revocation of his appointment to pave way for Sammy Chepkwony last month. He had only served one year of his three-year term having been appointed in late 2012 by former housing minister Soita Shitanda.

According to Onyonka, the leaders agreed to engage the presidency to discuss among other issues, development projects for the region.

“We are also seeking to discuss with the president the pending development projects initiated by the Kibaki regime such as the upgrading of Suneka airport, construction of a new airport in Nyamira County and the stalled road projects,” he added.
