Civic leaders push for Raila, Wiper pact

Civic leaders have urged Vice-President Kalonzo Musyoka to form a coalition with Prime Minister Raila Odinga, arguing that the G7 alliance have sidelined him.

Led by Masaku County Council former chairman councillor Stanley Mang’eli, the 25 leaders said Kenya was not meant to be lead by two tribes alone, adding that the other 40 could also be tasked with the same responsibility.

The councillors said as a community they felt cheated and manipulated after President Kibaki and the Party of National Unity failed to honour a memorandum of understanding they reached with Kalonzo during the 2007 post-election violence.

They said the PNU team had promised to back Kalonzo’s presidential bid for 2012 if he joined them.

“In this case, we as the Kamba community cannot trust any more people who are selfish and not promising,” said Mang’eli.

They insisted the VP and his Wiper party should join the premier who has a good track record of fighting for the interests of Kenyans unlike those in the G7 alliance.
