NAIROBI, KENYA: United Democratic Forum (UDF) presidential aspirant Musalia Mudavadi has launched the party’s National Election Board.

Mudavadi told the team that it must ensure a credible nomination process to avoid a fall-out.

The party also announced a waiver of nomination fees for all physically challenged aspirants.

Launching the election’s board to be headed by prominent businessman Abraham Limo, Mudavadi said the team must avoid the kind of problems that dog party nominations, where those who lose due to unfair processes move to other outfits.

“You must watch over this and ensure that the primaries are done in a transparent manner, such that candidates win fairly,” he said.

The Deputy Prime Minister said the party would soon hold a forum for all aspirants wishing to contest the seat on UDF ticket to discuss the party’s nomination rules.

Board members

Others in the UDF election board are Ms Mariah Mbeneka, Slatch Abdul Hamid, Ms Sultana Fadhi, Ben Nichodemus Mogaka, Munene Kahiro Lawrence and former Nominated MP Ruth Oniang’o.

Mudavadi also received into the party aspirants seeking to contest through UDF, including former Moderator of the Presbyterian Church of East Africa Rev David Githii, who will be contesting the Kiambu County gubernatorial position and Dr Francis Kiranga, eyeing the same position in Nakuru County.

At the same time, Mudavadi urged the Immigration Department to hasten the issuance of identity cards to ensure that the many youths who are holding on to waiting documents are not shut out of the voter registration exercise.

He said that given the short period set aside for voter registration, it is important that the issuance of the documents is fast tracked.
