Kanu moves to comply with Parties Act

Kanu has complied with the Political Parties Act and will submit its papers to the Registrar of Political Parties on Thursday.

Party Vice-Chairman Gideon Moi said Kanu was on the right track and it would be the party to beat in the next General Election.

"We have moved in all counties and registered 1,000 members. The few remaining counties would be covered before Thursday as per the Political Parties Act," he said.

He added: "Kanu is gearing up for massive recruitment of members as it focuses on fielding candidates in all available positions in the forthcoming General Election."

He was speaking to Kanu delegates from five counties in Coast Province at the Royal Court Hotel, Mombasa.

The Politicial Parties Act contains the principals and values that govern political parties and is a creation of the Constitution.

He said Kanu would have offices in all counties to co-ordinate party affairs in the run-up to the polls.

Gideon said the party would conduct elections from the grassroots in line with its new constitution, which was in the process of being adopted.

"We are in the danger zone as we are yet to get direction from the party chairman, but we must keep the party alive," he added.

The party’s Coast Province National Executive Committee representative, Mr Abdulrahaman Bafadhil, said the party’s new constitution would be adopted during the National Delegates Conference (NDC).

On the change of party name, Bafadhil said only NDC had the power to authorise the same.

"We are not going to allow few people to make decisions on behalf of Kanu. We have embarked on vigorous campaigns to strengthen the party," he said.

Bafadhil said Uhuru had his own problems and was under stress, but assured party members that there would be an NDC soon to adopt the party’s new laws.
