MPs want action over ‘Mandera’ occupation

MPs have demanded action over the alleged occupation of Mandera by foreign forces. They also demanded action over the outbreak of foot and mouth disease in Nyatike and claims that Eastleigh Airbase in Nairobi is a conduit for international narcotics trade. Mandera East MP, Hussein Muhamed Ali, told Parliament that foreign forces were shelling positions in Somalia’s Beled Hawa from Mandera’s Central Business District. Reports from Mandera indicate that Ethiopian forces and forces from Somalia’s Transitional Federal Government (TFG) are shelling positions held by the Al Shabaab militia from Mandera Town leading to two civilian deaths in the Kenyan town. Defence Assistant Minister, Joseph Nkaissery, denied the presence of foreign forces but said the ministry would provide a comprehensive statement tomorrow. And Nyatike MP, Omondi Anyanga, wants the Livestock Ministry to intervene and curb the outbreak of the cattle disease, which he claimed has killed many animals.
