Junior rugby: Coach angry with ref

By BS MULAVI

Papua New Guinea coach, Robin Tarere, is annoyed with the officiating at the Junior World Rugby Trophy after losing his second game to Chile 50-22.

Tarere feels many of the calls made in their game against Chile went against them and called for fair officiating.

"I am disappointed with the officiating I have seen in this tournament, and I am more concerned with the way our game was refereed," lamented Tarere.

The Papua New Guinea game was officiated by Argentinan Francisco Pastrana and Tarere has urged the IRB to look into the match tapes to substantiate his claims.

"I think if a referee can be biased for both teams then we can play the match much better," said Tarere.

Completely outclassed

Namibia trounced the Cayman Islands 104-7 in a one sided match that enhanced Namibia’s chances of qualifying for the finals. The South African team ran in 17 tries and completely outclassed the Cayman Islands. That was the second game of the day.

Namibia coach, Johan Diergaarrdt, was overwhelmed by the victory and paid tribute to his team.

"It was a great game, and I am glad that the patterns and structures worked out for us, making it easy to win the game," he said.

"We were disciplined in this game so the task at hand now is to make sure we don’t get overconfident before we meet the USA in our next game," he said.

The second Pool B match of the day saw 13-man Romania crush South Korea 65-14. Ionut Ciocan of Romania was the first man in the tournament to receive the red card after receiving two yellow cards for high tackles. The red card rules him out for the rest of the tournament.

Lack of discipline from the Europeans saw three of their players sin binned with Romania playing with 13 men for most of the game, but Korea simply could not utilise the advantage in numbers.
