Living a healthy life has always included eating right, exercising and drinking plenty of water. But often, we find that there isn’t enough emphasis on how important it is to get enough rest every day.

When you sleep at the right time and rest properly, you’re already helping your body have a strengthened immunity, you’re keeping your cardiovascular health in check and you’re also improving your mental health among many other benefits.

As we talk about how important it is to get enough hours of sleep, you should know that there are certain habits that prevent you from getting good quality sleep.

Below are some of the habits you should toss out now for better nights.

Drinking caffeinated drinks

If you’re a coffee lover, you’ve probably been tempted to enjoy a nice, hot cup of coffee before bed. Admittedly, it’s hard to resist when you have so many flavorful blends to try.

But, having a cup before bed isn’t something you should be doing if you want to give your body the rest it needs. And, it’s not only coffee, you should stay away from other caffeinated drinks like green, black and matcha tea.

These options are great for breakfast or lunch hours but once the day starts winding down, swap them for something that will help you relax more and induce sleep like a cup of chamomile tea.

Doing intense workouts

For some people, nighttime workouts help improve their quality of sleep. Light and moderate intensity workouts can actually give you a more restful night but the super intense ones can have the opposite effect.

Try your best to do heavy workouts earlier so that it doesn’t interfere with your rest.

Drinking a lot of water

Water is essential for every living being. It’s recommended that we drink enough water every day because our bodies need it for important functions such as blood pressure regulation, digestion and detoxification.

Even with all these benefits, there should still be a certain formula as to how you consume water. You shouldn’t gulp huge amounts of it before bed since that could lead to an interrupted night full of bathroom trips.

Interrupted sleep cycles is a door way to other health problems which is why you should drink water at the right time.

Triggering stress

Sometimes, stressful thoughts can come up on their own especially while you’re trying to sleep. Some of them might be uncontrollable but there could also be things you’re doing to make it worse.

Engaging in activities like arguing with your mate and watching emotionally triggering content could make it harder for you to fall asleep.

Eating heavy meals

Many of us are guilty of stuffing ourselves and going to bed without giving our bodies enough time to digest everything. It’s even worse when you eat spicy and fatty foods right before going to bed because this could give you major acid reflux and digestion issues.

It’s better to give your body at least three hours if you’ve had a heavy meal before going to bed.
