Former National Chairman of the Universities Academic Staff Union (UASU) Prof Muga K'Olale is dead.

K'Olale died at Matata Nursing Home in Oyugis town, Homa Bay County on Saturday evening.

The university don had been ill for some time and was receiving treatment in the hospital.

Matata Nursing Home Director John Malago confirmed his demise.

Mr Malago told The Standard that Dr K'Olale had been seriously ill in the past week.

"He was admitted to the hospital on March 21 for treatment. We condole with his family for the great loss," Malago said.

The body was moved to the hospital mortuary.

Prof K'Olale served UASU for a long period before a transition in the union leadership took place, which saw Grace Nyongesa of Kisii University take over from him in July 2021.
