Four invigilators fail to show up as KCPE kicks off in Kisii

Four of the eight invigilators who had been deployed to invigilate Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) examinations at Kisii Primary did not show up for work this morning.
The school which has eight examination rooms had only four invigilators and a supervisor showing up.
Early Learning and Basic Education Principal Secretary Dr Julius Jwan, who had earlier on supervised the distribution of exam papers at Kisii Central Sub County examination depot, remained in the school for more than one hour as senior education officials wrestled with the matter.
One of the invigilators showed up more than one hour late but PS Jwan turned him away as he called on the County Teachers Service Commission Director to take disciplinary action against the teachers.
“Once you sign to become an examination officer you must adhere to set rules and regulations. We must take this seriously, this is an all government matter and there is no way you break the rules. We will deploy new invigilators.”
Dr Jwan later ordered the County Director of Education and other senior sub-county officials in the Ministry of Education to invigilate the examination.
The PS said Migori, Nyamira and Kisii Counties had in the previous years been in the spotlight due to high cases of exam cheating.
“I am glad that this is no longer the case. There is a lot of goodwill from our people to allow our pupils to sit their examinations in a conducive environment.”
The County has 36,883 candidates sitting for this years KCPE examination out of which 18,242 boys and 18,641 are girls.
One candidate from Kenyenya Sub County was to sit for his exams from the hospital after an accident that left him with a fractured arm on Sunday afternoon.
