Kisumu Governor Prof Anyang Nyong'o has relocated his office from old Nyanza Provincial Headquarters building to City Hall.

The move affects the office of the Governor and support offices such as that of Chief of Staff, Head of Protocol and Governor's Communication Unit.

However, other offices such as that of the Deputy Governor, County Secretary and County Executive Members will remain at the old location.

Chief of Staff John Oywa confirmed the relocation saying it is meant to bring the Governor's office closer to the people.

"Only the Governor's office has been moved, and the other support offices will soon be moving. This is purely to bring the services closer to the people," he said.

Since the advent of devolution, the governor's office has been situated on the second floor of the old Nyanza Provincial Headquarters building which also hosts a number of national government offices such as that of the Regional Nyanza Commissioner, Kisumu County Commissioner, and regional government ministries.

It also hosts Huduma Centre, Immigration department, Lake Victoria Basin Commission among other regional local and agencies.

At some point in 2015, former Governor Jack Ranguma sought to rename the 18-floor building 'Prosperity House' in his quest to push the national government to relinquish it to the county government.

His efforts were however met with stern opposition from the then Regional Commissioner Francis Mutie who had the branding removed.

Mr Oywa has however said Governor Nyong'o's move is not related to any of the past history, and that the other county government offices will continue to operate from the building.
