Residents of Geto estate in Migori County were yesterday shocked after the body of a girl was found dumped in a church.

Samuel Awiti, a village elder, said 15-year-old Sheril Dorin had been living with her aunt for three days before she was killed.

According to Awiti, the Form One student at Siro Girls Secondary School was half naked and had a swollen neck, which suggested that she might have been raped before being strangled.

The aunt, Betty Odhiambo, said she had left the girl in the house with her two children overnight only to return in the morning and find that she was missing.

Phebby Anyango, the grandmother, said Dorin had left their home in Kanyamkago village in Uriri Sub-county on Saturday. She passed by her home in Oruba village in Suna West before going to stay with Odhiambo.

Separately, a Kenya Defence Forces soldier attached to Kahawa Barracks has been charged in a Kiambu court with the murder of his daughter.

Fredrick Nducu Kamau was accused of killing Shanil Wanjiku in Githunguri on June 9. He denied the charge.

He was arraigned after a mental evaluation at the Kiambu Level Five Hospital found that he was of sound mind and fit to stand trial. The matter will be heard on December 1 for bond application.
