Kenya loses another health worker to coronavirus

Marion Awour (pictured), the 32-year-old Ranchuoyo Sub County Hospital nurse who tested positive to COVID-19 two weeks has died.

Marion was on her recovery path after she had tested negative to the disease four days ago.

A week ago, she had delivered her first born baby while still under ICU at the Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital.

Kisii County Public Health Offficer Dr Richard Onkware says the medic died a few minutes past 3pm. "Her health seemed to have deteriorated in the last two days."

"It is unfortunate that we have lost a young mother and a dedicated medic. These are sad moments for the medical fraternity in the country and to the family,” he said.

Marian had been admitted at the Homabay County Hospital with flu-like symptoms in pregnancy, where she tested negative for Covid-19 mid last month.

She developed breathing complications and was transferred to Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital on July 17, where another test was done and the result turned positive.

Further tests were done with the latest result coming out last Thursday turning negative.

Marian gave birth to a baby boy while still on treatment.

While at the Kisii Hospital, she had continued to receive high dependency care including oxygen augmentation.
