Former Gem MP Jakoyo Midiwo was yesterday taken to court after a hotel associated with him allegedly failed to pay levies and penalties amounting to over Sh500,000 to the Tourism Fund.

Mr Midiwo, however, did not take plea after the court realised he was not among the directors as per the company’s registration documents.

Miriam House Hotel, in Kibuye, did not pay Sh536,117 in compliance with provisions of the Tourism Fund regulations.

Midiwo is accused of failing to make payments of two per cent of gross receipts from accommodation, sale of food in October 2014 and December 2015, and failing to pay an additional penalty of three per cent due as at October 2019.

Prosecution applied for summons to be issued against the directors.

The case will be heard on March 30.
