Police probe death of Homa Bay County ward administrator

Police in Homa Bay County are investigating the death of the county's ward administrator whose body was found dangling on a tree with a rope tied on his neck yesterday.

The County Police Commander Esther Seroney said that although Jack Ochieng's body was found; they had opened investigations to establish whether he committed suicide.

The Ward Administrator is claimed to have driven his car into a small forest at Kodera in Rangwe Constituency where he allegedly killed himself on Saturday.

Seroney said the deceased left behind a suicide note inside his vehicle written in Dholuo, instructing a woman to take care of his child.

The deceased was the administrator of South Kabuoch Ward in Ndhiwa Sub-County.

The reasons behind his death are yet to be established.

Acting Chief of North East Kanyamwa Location Jane Atieno said the deceased who hails from Kochia in Rangwe Sub-County was seen at the scene at around 10 am.

But he disappeared into the bush many hours before his body was discovered some hours later.

"Some people said they saw him that morning. But they did not follow him since nobody knew his intention," Atieno said.

The administrator said Ochieng's body was discovered by members of the public who became suspicious after realising his vehicle had been parked for longer than an expected duration.

"Some people saw the vehicle parked for long with nobody inside it. They went closer and found the body dangling from the tree," she added.

His vehicle was towed to Homa Bay Police station and his body moved to Homa Bay County Referral Hospital morgue for postmortem.
