Ousted County Assembly Speaker Onyango Oloo has been dealt a fresh blow after Members of the County Assembly kicked out his allies from key House positions.

Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), the majority party in the assembly, has also made changes that have affected the positions of Chief Whip and deputy Majority Leader.

Plotting to block

The ward representatives are also plotting to block any attempts to have Mr Oloo return to the House even if he is cleared of fraud charges he is battling in court. A fresh Motion to remove Oloo has been tabled in the House.

Among the positions affected are the Speaker’s panel, where key Oloo allies, including deputy Speaker Roy Samo, have been kicked out.

Speaker’s panel

In a paper tabled by Majority leader Kenneth Onyango, the new leadership has appointed nominated MCAs Inviolette Adhiambo and Caren Muga as well as East Seme Ward Rep Seth Okumu as the new members of the Speaker’s panel.

They replace Samo and former deputy Speaker Erick Agola and Migosi MCA Victor Rodgers.

“The assembly will no longer be used for retrogressive politics. We will refuse any attempts to distract us from our oversight role,” said Mr Onyango.

Chief whip Gard Olima has also been replaced by veteran politician Prisca Misachi. Ms Misachi, who is among the three MCAs who earned a second term in the last elections, previously served as a mayor.

Chief whip

Nominated MCA Jenifer Obonyo has been appointed Deputy Chief Whip while Nyalenda MCA Jacktone Ogendo will deputise Onyango.

The Standard has established that plans to replace the clerk are also underway, with two candidates already tipped to replace acting clerk Lilian Ochieng’. They include former clerk Philip Adundo and lawyer Owen Ojuok.
