Police arrest suspects with military uniform in Homa Bay

Two suspects believed to be behind a spate of robberies in the area have been arrested with military uniforms.

The men were found with the uniforms in their rental houses in Sindo town, Suba sub-county over the weekend.

One of them had two pairs of gumboots, a pair of trousers and a military bag, while the other had a military short, shirt and shoes.

Their arrest and detention at Magunga Police Station came after police got a tip off from the public.

Suba South Sub-County Police Commander Richard Cheruiyot said they had verified that the items were genuine military uniform.

Service number

“These items belong to military officers and the shirt has the service number of an officer. We have confiscated the items to identify the real owners” said Cheruiyot.

The police boss expressed optimism that their investigations will reveal the source of the items.

“We are also investigating the purpose for which the suspects secured the items,” said Cheruiyot.

The suspects’ arrest comes after numerous complaints to the police about a spike in robbery with violence cases in Sindo town.

Chairman of Sindo Traders Association John Kisiara, said a gang has been robbing residents in the area at will.

“Many traders in the town have lost their property to gangsters. We are asking the police to do more to eradicate crime,” said Kisiara.

Last week, two suspects were lynched by residents who implicated them in theft of two motorbikes in Sindo town.
