Woman rescued from jaws of crocodile

A 33-year-old woman is recuperating at Nyang’oma Mission Hospital after she was attacked and seriously mauled by a crocodile at Riskis-Kogwari beach in Bondo sub-county.

Nancy Achieng’ Ochieng’ is said to have gone to wash her cloths at the lakeshore when the reptile attacked and seriously injured her.

According to Nyang’oma Assistant Chief Mr Michael Amollo Osare, the woman screamed during the attack before some two fishermen who were near the lakeshore rushed to rescue her.

Confirming the incident to The Standard, Mr Osare said that the woman was lucky since the two fishermen reached the scene when the crocodile was still holding her, and swiftly entered into the water in an attempt to snatch her from the reptile.

The administrator added that after noticing that it was already overwhelmed, the reptile let off the woman and disappeared into the lake.

He further stated that the woman was then removed from the water with severe injuries on her right thigh.

“She was rushed to the nearby Nyang’oma Mission Hospital where she is currently undergoing treatment,” said Mr Osare.

The incident comes barely two weeks after a 32-year-old man was killed by a crocodile in Oele beach, Yimbo East ward.

The body of Kennedy Ouma was recovered and taken to Bondo sub-county hospital mortuary as residents expressed fears over incessant attack by the crocodiles.
