Man lynched after beheading father, chopping off his private parts

A man who beheaded his father and chopped off his private parts has been lynched by villagers at Kongonyi in the outskirts of Kisumu.

Police said Dalmas Achara, 24 was three weeks ago released from Kodiaga Prison, where he was being held for robbery with violence. It is not clear why he was released.

Kisumu Central OCPD Ancent Kaloki said the man, who killed his father in the wee hours of Friday, was saved from the mob by AP officers and taken to Jaramogi Teaching and Referral Hospital, but was pronounced dead on arrival. Mr Kaloki said police were investigating the matter and asked witnesses to volunteer information.

Area Assistant Chief Nancy Onditi said the man killed his father after a struggle in their house near the Kisumu International Airport.

“He killed his 48-year-old father Omondi Achara, a jua Kali artisan, then cut off his head and private parts before injuring other villagers and security guards,” Ms Onditi said.

The two are said to have been living together at their home since Dalmas was released from prison. Onditi said residents had reported that the suspect was violent.

“The boy was very violent to villagers and we had received reports from the neighbours, but the father protected him,” said Onditi.

Before the incident, Dalmas had been spotted with a group of friends. He was said to have been uncharacteristically calm.

“There was a struggle in the house, as items are broken, blood is all over the floor... but we found the head, body and private parts behind their house,” said Onditi.

Ray Olago, a witness, said Dalmas was lynched by villagers after he started attacking neighbours.

Onditi urged families to report signs of violence in homes and seek help to prevent recurrence of such acts.
