Dormitory set ablaze as students bar fire engine from compound

Kisii: A dormitory at Riosiri Secondary School in Gucha South, Kisii County was Thursday night burnt down, just a day after education stakeholders held a meeting to come up with solutions to the menace.

Fire broke out at around 8pm, burning half of the boys’ dormitory.

Kisii County Director in charge of Disaster Management, Julius Tinega says students in the school were hostile to the County Fire fighting personnel.

"We managed to get a back-up from the police and we have maintained the situation," said Tinega.

The school is located less two kilometers from Tabaka Secondary which was also burnt down on Sunday.

Education Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiang'i will be in Kisii Friday, for the first time since the Itierio Boys High school fire where seven dormitories were burnt down a month ago.

Matiang'i will preside over Kisii High school prize giving day.

This is the third school to be set ablaze in Kisii County within a span of one week.
