150 health workers hired to plug shortfall in Nyamira

NYAMIRA: The county government has hired 150 nurses and clinical officers.

The figure brings to 550 healthcare staff who have been employed by in the county in the last six months.

In January, 250 other service providers of various cadres in the sector were employed.

Governor John Nyagarama said the latest recruitment has almost plugged a health personnel shortfall that has been a major challenge in provision of healthcare services.

He said the ratio of nurses and doctors to patients in various county health facilities was smaller and that this would improve service delivery.

He said the next challenge for his leadership was equipping hospitals adequately.

"My government will continue to invest heavily in the other building blocks of the health sector including procurement of medical and non-medical commodities for our health facilities, infrastructure improvements and procurement of medical equipment among others," Mr Nyagarama said.

The new staff were hired in conjunction with Aphia Plus - Western Region.
