Officer charged with girlfriend’s abortion

A clinical officer was arraigned before a Nyahururu court and charged with carrying out an abortion on “his girlfriend without her consent”.

Anthony Kariuki Njoroge, a clinical officer at the Ol Kalou District Hospital, denied the charge when he appeared before Nyahururu Principal Magistrate Dennis Mikoyan.

Njoroge is charged that on June 20, 2011, at Huruma estate in Ol Kalou Township within Nyandarua County, he inserted a tablet into the private parts of his girlfriend Jane Njeri, knowing it was intended to induce a miscarriage.

The court heard that Njoroge deceived his girlfriend that the drug was meant to ‘clean’ her stomach.

The court further heard that she filed a complainant report at the Ol Kalou police station on 16th September 2012.

He was released on a cash bail of Ksh50, 000 until November 5.
