Ogao tops Nasa swimming championship

Emma Ogao of Braeburn School collected 27 points to top girls’ 10-11 age group category in Nasa swimming championship at Aga Khan High, Nairobi.

Alethea Sande of Loreto Convent Valley Road (LCVR) finished runner-up with five points adrift, while Sarafina Harderwijk of Banda School was third overall on 19.

The boys’ honours went to Kassim Kassim of Brookhouse School who scooped 37 points followed by Peponi House ace Murimi Kanyogo (29) and Jeremy Kimotho of Aqua Kenya Swimming Club (26).

The gala was used to promote swimmers to double ‘A’ Championship but a number of them literally killed two birds with one stone by attaining triple ‘A’ qualifying points.

They included Anita Field of Braeburn who recorded winning time of 3:16.67 in 200m butterfly and 3:37.48 200m breastroke to land in triple ‘A’ status.

Jinal Haria of Oshwal Academy Nairobi also jumped to trip ‘A’ category following his victory in boys’ 13 years and over 200m breastroke that he won in 3:05.31.

Roll of honours

George Kabungo of Strathmore University also attained triple ‘A’ times when he won boys over 18 50m butterfly in 34.43.

Larisa Isaeva put Braeburn School on the roll of honours after she topped girls’ 12-13 girls category on 31 points to relegate Gina Beyers to runner-up position on 29 points and Sofia Hansen of Peponi, who bagged 21 points.

Tunde Muriuki of Aqua stole the limelight in boys’ 12-13 category with 61 points beating Africa Swimming Club’s Jacob Danielson to the second position with a difference of 23 points.

Jana Beyers of International School of Kenya (ISK) was unstoppable in girls’ 14-15 age group where she topped with 49 points followed by Brookhouse’s pair of Natasha Van Hock (32) and Sydney Otieno (19).

After putting up impressive shows at the 25-metre pool at Aga Khan, Mathangani Kariuki of Aqua emerged the best overall in boys’ 14-15 topping the category on 33 points.

Robert Rogge did proud for Aquinas High finishing second behind Kariuki on 28 points that is one more than third-placed Alishaan Merali of ISK.

Girls’ 16-17 honours went to Elsie Njoroge of Loreto who collected 35 points to lead Saadah Twalib (12) and Fiona Kwatemba (10), both of Aga Khan.
