Business training for Nyamira launched

The youth in Kitutu Masaba Constituency in Nyamira County are set to benefit from a free sensitisation programme on how to start small to medium-sized companies.

The initiative, which is being supported by a section of councillors from the constituency, comes after the Government announced that 10 per cent of tenders would be allocated to youth-run companies.

This followed a directive from President Mwai Kibaki last June when he ordered the Finance minister Njeru Githae and the Attorney General Githu Muigai to remove all legal bottlenecks that often hinder the youth from accessing Government contracts.

The civic leaders lauded the Government initiative, saying it would address severe unemployment in the area.

They however, identified lack of information on how to start up companies as a major obstacle that could keep off many youths from accessing the opportunity.

In a statement read by nominated councillor Joel Matara on behalf of at least 15 civic leaders from the area, the programme would focus on enhancing knowledge and awareness on requirements on trade.

“It is for this reason we have sought the services of a consultant who will be training our youths across the constituency on basic entrepreneurship and legal procedures before they establish companies,” said Matara.

Mr Victor Ogeto Swanya, who will lead the sensitisation programme, said that company registration process was a costly affair and had several legal requirements that the youths must get acquainted with in order to benefit.
