Ethiopian gunmen kill five in Moyale town attack

By Mireri Junior | March 13th 2020

Five people have been killed in Moyale town, Marsabit County after gunmen from Ethiopia stormed Sessi area, beating up locals for allegedly hiding Ethiopian militia.

The Thursday attack has seen tension grow in Moyale town and in areas along the Kenya-Ethiopia border as locals fear for more attacks.

On Friday morning, the county security agencies and local leaders were holed up in a security meeting over the attack.

The attack came hours after President Uhuru Kenyatta held talks with Ethiopian President Sahle-Work Zewde who paid him a courtesy call at State House, Nairobi.

The two leaders discussed a wide range of bilateral and multilateral subjects including the peaceful co-existence among communities living along the Kenya-Ethiopia border.

The meeting was attended by cabinet secretaries Raychelle Omamo and Sicily Kariuki (Water) as well as Foreign Affairs Principal Secretary Macharia Kamau, Kenya's Ambassador to Ethiopia Catherine Mwangi and her Ethiopian counterpart to Kenya Meles Alem Tikea.
