Three people denied killing a Marsabit chief.
Appearing before High Court Judge Said Chitembwe in Meru, Doyo Galgalo, Galmo Guyo Galgalo and Bokayo Dida Boru denied killing Dirib Kombo Chief George Godana
The court heard that the crime was committed on December 16, 2018, at Gargasa area in Quilta Korma location in Marsabit.
Doyo Galgalo and Dida Boru asked the court to read their plea in Borana as they did not understand Kiswahili. Ibrahim Robo, a court officer, translated the plea.
The prosecution urged the court to detain the three, saying they were a flight risk and asked for more time to conclude its investigation.
However, the court ruled that the suspects were not a flight risk and released them on a Sh1 million bond each with a surety of the same amount or a Sh300,000 cash bail.
The case will be mentioned on January 17.
The three had appeared before Chief Magistrate Lucy Ambasi on December 27, 2018, when police asked for orders to detain them until today.
Mr Godana was lynched and his body burnt by residents when he went to attend the burial of villagers who had been killed in renewed tribal fighting in Giresa, Marsabit County.
Outrageous incident
Speaking during the burial of the officer last month, Eastern Regional Commissioner Wycliffe Ogalo said the Government was irked by the outrageous incident.
“The people who did this have poked the President’s eye and the consequences of this are going to be measurable," Mr Ogalo warned.
The official, who was accompanied by Eastern police boss Moses Ombati and AP boss Joseph Keitany, noted that this was a warning to the masterminds of the killing, saying the Interior ministry would stop at nothing to ensure that justice was served.
Godana's brother Hussine Godana said the chief was a victim of political rivalry.
