Landlady accused of stealing tenant's Sh180,000 gold chain

A landlady in Umoja Estate, who is suspected of breaking into a male tenant’s house and stealing a gold chain, has been arraigned.

According to court papers, Irene Wanjiku Weru broke into Evans Kamau Mbatia’s house on May 7 at a plot in Umoja Estate in Embakasi Sub-county.

“You broke, entered, and stole a gold chain valued at Sh180,000,” reads the charge sheet.

Wanjiku  is said to have broken into Mbatia’s house and ransacked it before stealing the gold chain.

Mbatia, who was not at home when the incident happened, came in the evening and found his house in a state of disorder.

After conducting a search, he noticed that the gold chain, which he bought recently, was missing.

When he asked one of his neighbours if anybody was seen breaking into his house, he was informed that the landlady was the one who broke into the house.

Mbatia  told the police that he had cleared his rent and did not owe Wanjiku any money.

Following investigations, Wanjiku was then arrested and taken to court where she pleaded not guilty.

The court released her on a cash bail of Sh70,000, pending a hearing of the case on November 22.
