President William Ruto has called on Kenyans to celebrate Easter with renewed faith and hope.

In a message to the country, Ruto said, “As we remember the crucifixion and the resurrection of Christ, may this season remind us that after every challenge, we have the opportunity for a new start.'

“To every family, may the spirit of Easter bring joy and peace. To every weary heart may it hope and renewed faith, Mungu abariki familia zenu, mungu abariki Kenya,” he said in the short video.

He added that Easter, one of the most important events in the Christian calendar, should inspire unity, love, and a new beginning.

Deputy President Kithure Kindiki, on his part, said Good Friday renews hope and affirms redemption, describing the death of Jesus Christ as the ultimate act of love.

“The Easter weekend remains the most solemn season of the Christian calendar, for pause, reflection, renewal and celebration of the most consequential moment that conclusively defined our destiny,’’ Kindiki said.

He wished families peace and clarity, urging Kenyans to work together toward a shared national purpose.

Netizens also shared mixed reactions online, with many sending goodwill messages while others called for action on national challenges.

“Happy Easter, Mr President. But remember to escalate your moves beyond words and do whatever you were sworn in to do. It's barely a year remaining for the first term in office, but most sectors are limping,’’ an X user posted.

According to the Christian belief, Easter marks victory over death and the promise of new life following the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

The celebrations, which culminate on Easter Sunday, follow the 40 days of Lent, observed through prayer, fasting, and reflection.
