Nyanza gets first female governor after Wanga floors Kidero in Homa Bay race

Homa Bay Woman Representative Gladys Wanga has become the first female governor in Nyanza region after flooring former Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero in the Homa Bay gubernatorial contest.

The former Homa Bay Woman Representative takes over from Cyprian Awiti, who has completed his maximum two terms.

Wanga got 244,559 votes against Kidero's 154,182 votes.

Former Kasipul Kabondo MP Oyugi Magwanga will serve as Wanga's deputy.

Hot contest

The Homa Bay gubernatorial race had 10 aspirants before seven stepped down in March 2022. Wanga's closest challenger was former Nairobi governor Kidero. The third aspirant, Mark Raudi of United Democratic Alliance got 1,244 votes.
