Education CS Prof. George Magoha has adjusted the school closing date from the initial August 6 deadline to Tuesday, August 2, 2022.

Yesterday, the CS announced that schools would close by Saturday, August 6. The half-term for the second term was to run up to Monday, August 15, to pave way for next week's polls.

In a statement dated August 1, CS Magoha said the date adjustments were to give ample time to prepare and conduct elections.

"Following further considerations, I hereby convey the Government's decision on the immediate closure of all basic education institutions with effect from Tuesday, August 2, 2022, until Wednesday, August 10, 2022," Magoha's press release read in part.

"This is to ensure that preparations and conduct of the upcoming elections are carried out seamlessly," he added.

The Education Ministry has advised stakeholders in the sector to ensure learners leave school effective tomorrow and resume their studies by Thursday, two days after the Election date.

The move is reportedly to allow the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to operate seamlessly as a majority of polling stations across the country are schools
