Businessman and firearm dealer Ken Lungwili, who was Wednesday arrested after a cache of weapons was found in his office in Kilimani, Nairobi has been freed on Sh300,000 cash bail.

Lungwili denied all charges preferred against him when he was arraigned at the Kahawa Law Court in Kiambu.

Through his lawyers Simon Mburu and Anthony Kogo, the accused asked that Chief Magistrate Diana Mochache dismiss a request by the prosecution, who were seeking five days to detain him to pave way for further investigations.

“The prosecution has not demonstrated how the accused would interfere with the forensic investigations. However, the accused shall report to the Investigating Officer as and when directed to but not more than twice a week.” Mochache stated.

The prosecution wanted more time to investigate if he [Lungwili] is a licensed civilian firearm holder and whether two companies (VIC Technology Limited and SILKEN security firm) associated with him are licensed to deal in firearms by the Licensing Board.

They also argued that they needed time to analyze his accounts and phones and communication between him and other suspects who are believed to be in some organized criminal gangs.

However, his lawyers stated that their client is ready and willing to cooperate with the authorities and that he is not a flight risk.

The case will be mentioned on July 7.
