Pangani, Alliance, Sunshine among top city performers

Pangani Girls High School recorded a mean score of 9.9 to emerge among top performing schools in the country.

The school recorded 27 grade A, with 124 candidates scoring A-. Another 111 got B+.

The principal, Florence Karari, said this is an improvement from the previous year’s 9.5 mean grade.

Karari expressed joy on the good performance, especially in sciences. “We are excited that their performance was very good and especially in sciences. 97 per cent of the candidates did all three sciences and they did so well,” she said.

Vero Aduda, one of the top students in the school with an A of 84 points, could not hide her excitement.

“I was not expecting the grades that I have but I thank God, the school administration and my mother for grounding me,” she said.

Vero, who wants to pursue medicine in the university, also urged the class of 2024 to work hard.

Karari commended the Ministry of Education for the new grading system that steered the stunning performance.

Alliance Girls High School also emerged among top schools, with the institution managing to get 43 As. Kenya High had 36.

At the Sunshine Secondary School, jubilation erupted as it emerged that the institution had recorded a mean of 9.1. Last year, the school had a mean score of 8.5.

“This was a good class. Students were disciplined and they prepared well. Teachers did what they could to ensure top we realise grades,” said the head teacher.

Light Academy, Nairobi also performed well

with a mean score of 9.55. Seven students scored grade A, 35 A- and 44 students got B+. Only five students out of 142 did not meet the minimum university entrance grade C+.

Moi Education Centre principal, Stephen Wekesa, said the school reported a mean score of 7.04, with top candidate scoring an A of 83 points.
