Dagoretti South MP John Kiarie was Sunday questioned by police over his claims there are 7,000 Kenyans in quarantine over coronavirus disease.
Kiarie was summoned by police to the Kabete Police Station where he spent the better part of the afternoon answering to various questions.
Head of Kabete DCI Francis Wanjau said they will know the way forward later.
“We are talking to him and will know the way forward later,” he said.
Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe had earlier on disputed the MP’s claims terming them false.
“As leaders let us be careful with what we are saying. The law will take its course,” he reiterated.
He added there are 2,050 people under mandatory quarantine at various hotels and institutions.
Kiarie becomes the fourth person to be questioned over claims about the disease. Others include a Kenya Medical Training College students and bloggers Robert Alai and Cyprian Nyakundi.
Other officials said the MP might be charged at a later date.
He had put up a long post on his social media that attracted various reactions.
“In Dagoretti South Constituency, we are hosting them at Lenana School and Kinyanjui Technical. How they got there and the chaos therein is a story for another day,” he said.
He went on to add that Kenya has an acute shortage of testing kits and the country cannot adequately test how many of these new arrivals are currently positive! “We currently do not know the exact number of positive cases in the country.”
