Governors Wangamiti, Kimemia accuse KNBS of foulplay in census results

Two Governors have faulted the recent census results released by the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics on Monday.

Nyandarua Governor Francis Kimemia (pictured) and his Bungoma counterpart Wycliffe Wangamati vowed to launch complaints to the government body over the count results.

They said that the census results did not reflect the truth on the ground as there was no population growth indicated.

The two said that proper analysis on how the exercise was carried should be conducted to see what transpired.

The duo aid that there was no way that their respective counties could register minimum population growth for the last ten years.

“We do not agree with the results and that is why we are seeking to have an audience with the government agency. It cannot be true that Nyandarua had an increase of only 40,000 people in ten years," said Kimemia.

He expressed concern that the region would get less money from the Treasury should it be shared according to the population distribution.

"Our biggest fear is that we will get less resources from the Government. The agency should come out clear and explain. If the results are true, then we should look into a solution as to why," he said.

Governor  Wangamati noted that the region was ranked fifth in the last census and wondered why it still remained the same.

"Our region is known to have more population growth and that is why we are wondering what happened. The government agency must come and shed the light," he pondered.

The two leaders spoke on the sidelines of the ongoing public finance management peer learning forum that brings together officials from all counties.
