Fleeing gunmen shoot three in Nairobi

There was a scare in Ngara, Nairobi, when fleeing gunmen shot and injured three people after stealing Sh140,000 from a scrap metal dealer.   

A boda boda rider and two people who responded to the alarm after the robbery on Murang’a Road were shot.

The gunmen fled on a motorbike and headed to the city centre.

On reaching Guru Nanak, the public attempted to block the suspects leading to the shooting.

The three are admitted to Kenyatta National Hospital, two in critical condition.

A police report to Vigilance House indicates that the first man was shot and injured in the leg at Guru Nanak area yesterday at 10.10am.

He is said to be part of a group that attempted to stop the fleeing gunmen on a motorbike.

After shooting the first man, the gang drove towards Park Road direction, on reaching Race Course Road, they attempted to steal a motorbike from a boda boda rider.

The rider was shot and injured in the stomach after he tried to wrestle the criminals.

A third man, who witnessed the shooting of the boda boda rider and attempted to stop the criminals was also shot.

Nairobi police chief Philip Ndolo said officers are hunting for the gunmen who were also caught on camera as they fled the scene of crime.

Witnesses have told police that the thugs were armed with a pistol and an AK 47 riffle.

Ndolo said the injured were out of danger by last evening.

A motorbike that the criminals used to escape was last evening recovered after it was abandoned in Dandora.
