Mysterious fire destroys crime files at Industrial Area police station

Police have launched investigations into the cause of a fire that burnt down crucial documents at the crime office of Industrial Area police station, Nairobi.

The fire is said to have started from a store near the crime office and spread fast, affecting files on various crimes committed in the division.

Police said they were yet to know the cause of the fire that at some point threatened to spread further to the main cells, where dozens of suspects were locked. The inferno was later put out with the help of fire engines.

Nairobi police boss Japheth Koome said they contained the fire as it spread from the store, toilets and other offices. No injury was reported during the mid-day incident.

“The place affected was the store, which had many files on various issues at the division. No injury was reported. We are investigating the matter to know the cause,” he said.

SIPHONING OIL

Elsewhere, five people were arrested for siphoning oil from power transformers in Ngong. They were arrested in Kibiku area where they had vandalised three transformers and siphoned fuel.

Police said they also confiscated a vehicle the three were using. The suspects were taken in for questioning.

Officials said there has been an increase in vandalism of transformers in the area, hence affecting power supply. “This has led to loss of business and general low production in parts of the Kajiado County,’ said an official aware of the development.

Locals called on police to intensify their operations in the area to ensure such incidents are addressed.
