to emerge the overall winner of the annual Jaramogi Memorial Golf Day at the nine-hole Nyanza Golf Course at the weekend.

The handicap 27 player beat a field of 88 participants drawn from different clubs across the country in a mouth watering event that recorded high scores and saw winners walk away with lucrative prizes.

Patel scored 21 stableford points in the first nine and added 23 points in the back nine for a total 44 points to rule the roost.

"I feel humbled by this win. The course was hard but I did my best and ensure I won the tournament this year after the title eluded me in the past. The event attracted a quality field of players and it was not easy winning," patel told FeverPitch after the deserved win.

Edward Ochuodho, playing off handicap 28, was the runner-up after carding 22 stableford points in the first nine and posted 21 on the back nine for a total of 43 points.

Great achievement

"I’m happy with my performance today. It is a great achievement in my life and it gives me the urge to improve on my game and I believe I will win it next time," Ochuodho said.

Handicap 28 Sharad Somaia was third also on 43 stableford points after losing to Ochuodho on count back.

He started well in the first nine with an impressive score of 25 points as he threatened to break the course record, but fumbled in the second nine to post 18 points in the second nine.

Dr S R Patel, playing off handicap 19, settled for the fourth position after amassing 39 stableford points of 17 points in the front nine and 22 in the second.

Sponsoring tourney

The first nine prize went to handicap 19 George Oricho who posted 22 stableford points, while handicap 18 Raju Bhayani’s Meeraj won the second nine prize on 23 points.

Longest drive men winner was Peter Owino, while Rosemary Obara won the ladies longest drive.

Managing Director of Spectre International Ruth Adhiambo Odinga, Jaramogi’s daughter, who was the chief guest at the event, asked ladies to join the game of golf to challenge the dominance of men.

"This event is marked to remember my father and I’m happy that the turnout was good. Getting 88 golfers to attend such a tournament is not easy, I would like to challenge women to also join the game in large numbers," said Adhiambo.

She also announced that Spectre International would consider sponsoring a tournament as part of their Corporate Service Responsibility.
