Wahome lifts Lady Captain’s Prize title

Alice Wahome posted 24.5 points to emerge the overall lady winner in the Lady Captain’s Prize at the par 71 Nyali Golf and Country Club course in Mombasa on Saturday.

Wahome beat her colleagues after obtaining the best differential points played between the stableford in the first nines and meddle ford formats in the second nines during the day-long 18 holes tournament.

The event, sponsored by the Golden Key Casino and Tamarind Restaurant, was to bid farewell to the club’s outgoing Lady captain Sumali Jayasinghe, whose term in office last month.

The event brought together 160 golfers both men and women from the golf clubs of Nyali, Mombasa, Leisure, Vipingo, Malindi and guests of the sponsors with valid handicaps.

Double victory

Jayne Githere registered 25.5 points to take the runners up slot while Joyce Lanxe was third on a two-way count back.

"This is a double victory for me, being the winner in a friend’s tournament and starting the year as a champion," said Wahome.

She had tied on the same points with Margaret Mugambi who was placed fourth and Wambui Warui who finished fifth, while Pia Swatton was sixth on 26.5 points.

Veteran lady golfer Diana Munyao was the winner of the best past captain on a score of 28 points, while the Best Lady Marker prize was won by Terry Odoo on a score of 10 points.

Men’s category

In the men’s category, Rashid Sheikh emerged the winner on a count back score of 40 stableford points, tying on the same points with runner up Mohamed Ali Sheikh, while youngster Adel Balala scored 36 points to finish third.

Kishor Gudka was the Best Senior on a score of 34 points, while the club’s home professional Kopan Timbe took the prize for the hidden hole.

The Best caddy prize was won by Emmanuel Wekesa on 38 points, while Andrew Simiyu came second on a count back score of 35 points.

Meanwhile, Lucas Nyambogo posted an impressive 40 stableford points to emerge the overall winner of the Airtel Network Kenya Limited golf Tournament at the par 72 Nyanza Golf Club at the weekend.

Playing off handicap 11, Nyambogo posted 20 stableford points in the first nine before adding a similar number of points in the second to emerge the winner.

Handicap 10 Hezron Wafula finished second overall after posting 39 stableford points after scoring 19 in the first nine before adding another 21 in the second. In the third place was handicap 19 Meeraj Bayani who lost on countback to Wafula. Bhayani scored 21 stableford points in the front nine and added another 18 in the back nine for a total of 39 Stableford points.
