The University Academic Staff Union has announced plans to hold street demonstrations as their strike entered the third week.

In a statement sent to the Newsroom, UASU officials said that they would be holding demonstrations in Nairobi, Mombasa, Kisumu, Kakamega, Nakuru, Eldoret and other urban areas.

"Members should disregard all communication from the universities management regarding the strike," said UASU secretary general, Constatine Wesonga.

This comes days after the lecturers rejected a pay deal that would have seen the lowest paid— assistant lecturer — earn Sh91,593 with the highest earning up to Sh240,491 per month

Employment and Labour Relations Court had earlier blocked the lecturers from participating in the strike.
