Senate team seeks more evidence to nail Bomet Governor Isaac Ruto

A Senate committee has asked 11 petitioners to provide more concrete evidence to prove that Bomet Governor Isaac Ruto’s administration is involved in fraud.

The Finance and Budget committee chaired by Mandera Senator Billow Kerrow, also raised doubts on credibility of the petitioners’ claims of embezzlement of funds, financial impropriety and skewed employment by the Bomet County.

The petitioners claim the County Government of Bomet was engaging in fraudulent financial transactions.

The petitioners are Lagat Adams, Kiptoo Keoch, Kipkirui Ngeno, Benson Ngetich, Kirui Gilbert, Josphat Tuei, Nicholas Rono, Franklin Rotich, Patrick Chumo, Kibbet Rotich and Chepkoech Damaris.

With regard to employment, the Senate pointed out that there were discrepancies in employment of some officers and they went ahead and declared that any recruitment done without involvement of the County Public Service Board be revoked.

“The governor should be surcharged to recover all salaries and allowances paid to these employees,” reads the Kerrow report.

The Senators’ final verdict: “Should there be factual allegations that the governor, especially since he is the CEO of the county and therefore responsible, contravened the provisions of the Public Procurement and Disposal Act, the Office of the Director Public Prosecution should take up the matter, with a view of taking legal action.”
