INTEGRITY : IEBC cleared some aspirants of questionable character

IEBC should heed criticism from churches over clearing politicians of questionable integrity.

The commission is supposed to sanitise leadership by only clearing leaders not tainted by criminal or graft claims but this was overlooked and all aspirants were given the green light to vie for elections. Compliance with Chapter Six of the Constitution on Integrity has remained a pipe dream and many Kenyans hope that retired Anglican Archbishop Eliud Wabukala who heads the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission will enforce the law.

Voters should vet leaders seeking elective posts to ensure only those with integrity assume power. Away from integrity, recently churches also pronounced themselves on the ballot papers tender.

Catholic Church leaders urged the electoral commission to revoke the tender to avert chaos and ensure credible elections. Bottom line is, if the IEBC does not listen to the church now then it should not seek their hand to preach peace in case chaos erupt over the outcome of the elections.
