Looking good and feeling good are important parts of life for many women. Beauty is not only about wearing expensive clothes, applying makeup, or following the latest fashion trends.

Beauty is also about confidence, self-respect, good health, and being comfortable in your own skin, no matter the shade.

African women come from different communities, cultures, and backgrounds, so having different skin tones, body shapes, hair textures, and personal styles is obvious. This diversity is beautiful.

There is no one specific way to look like a beautiful black woman, as beauty can be found in dark skin, light skin, chocolate skin, natural hair, braids, short hair, traditional clothes, modern outfits, and many other forms of expression.

Looking good often starts with personal cleanliness and self-care. For instance, taking a shower, caring for your skin, keeping your hair neat, applying a good frangrance and wearing clean clothes can improve how you feel about yourself.

These simple habits do not have to be expensive, because a woman can look presentable by choosing clothes that are clean, comfortable with appropriate make up, if need be, to suit the occasion at hand.

Skin care is also an important part of looking and feeling good. African skin tones come in many beautiful shades, and every woman should learn to appreciate her natural complexion and know what make up/oil best works for her.

A simple skin-care routine including washing the face gently, using a moisturiser, and protecting the skin from harsh conditions, can go a long way.

Notably, matching clothes, blending appropriate colors and shades of make-up may go hand in hand with one’s complexion and outfit in a flattering manner.

Though women should exercise caution when using some cosmetic and beauty products that promises swift change to their bodies and skin, since some of these products can damage the skin and affect a person’s health in a negative way.

Hair is another powerful part of an African woman’s beauty, as preferences vary from one woman to the next.  You may find some opt to wear braids, cornrows, wigs, weaves, dread-locks, weaves, afros, or even natural hairstyles.

Hair can be a way to show creativity, culture, and even personality. However, no woman should feel forced to wear a certain hairstyle to be accepted.

The most important thing is to choose a style that makes you feel confident and comfortable while also caring for your scalp and hair.

Another sector is, clothing. To some extent how a woman dresses tells a story, shows the public who she is, it is simply without a doubt, a form of self-expression.

Undeniably, since African fashion is rich in color, design, and history, various fashions from Kitenge, kente, shweshwe, Ankara, Maasai-inspired designs, and other African fabrics can be used to create beautiful outfits.

At the same time, women can enjoy clothing from different parts of the world, because fashion should be a personal choice, not a competition. This is where a woman may decide to rock satin, silk, denim or even corduroy.

Because, guess what! a simple outfit can look beautiful when it is worn with confidence.

Feeling good goes deeper than just physical appearance. A woman may look perfect on the outside but still feel unhappy, tired, or insecure.

So true confidence grows when she understands her value goes beyond her beauty, because her education, talents, kindness, courage, work, and dreams are also important parts of who she is.

Most crucial part is good health. When a woman’s health is good, it plays a major role in feeling good.

Because eating balanced meals, drinking enough water, resting, and staying active can improve both the body and the mind.

Healthy diet can also promote a lovely smile because when a woman’s teeth are clean and well cared for. A confident and lovely smile always light up a room. So regular visits to the dentist should be paramount.

Taking their general health seriously also by attending medical check-ups and seeking help when they feel emotionally overwhelmed is essential. Speaking to a trusted friend, family member, counsellor, or health professional is also sign of self-love and strength.

In hindsight, though social media can sometimes make women feel that they are not beautiful nor good enough, they should know and believe that that is not true.

Many pictures online are edited, filtered, or carefully selected, and comparing yourself to such images can damage your confidence. So it will be advisable and healthier to follow people who promote self-love, realistic beauty standard, African pride, and positive living.

Every African woman deserves to feel beautiful without changing who she is to please others. Looking good is wonderful, but feeling good is even more important.

When a woman accepts herself, cares for her body, protects her peace, and walks with confidence, her beauty becomes stronger and more noticeable.

True beauty is not about meeting someone else’s standards. It is about celebrating the woman you are and becoming the best version of yourself that you can be.
