Man finds 'finds maggot in chicken' bought af KFC diner

A dead maggot had been coated in breadcrumbs within the chicken

A man has vowed to never eat at KFC after finding what he believed looks like a Maggot in his box of chicken.

After snapping a picture of the shocking find on his smartphone, Wayne Mitchell contacted the company, who say they are investigating "as a matter of the utmost importance".

The chicken - three breast fillets for £4.99 - came from the KFC in Oldbury, in the Black Country, according to the BBC, on June 22.

After taking them home for lunch, the 44-year-old polished off the first two with his young children but as he bit into the third piece he noticed a small, black object drop out.

On closer inspection he says he realised it was a dead maggot that had been coated in breadcrumbs within the chicken.

Wayne, from Ladywood, Birmingham, said that he returned the meat, which he believes was contaminated, after the incident, and, after being told he would get a response within a month, the firm has now admitted the meat was not tested.

"I went over just before lunch and picked up three pieces of chicken to eat at my children's house.

I was sat down next to them and ate the first two as normal, but then when I picked up the third and bit into it I noticed something drop off it.

"When I picked it up with my fingers I thought 'This looks like a maggot' - it was disgusting.

"It was all fried up and horrible, it makes my skin crawl thinking about it.

"Imagine if my kids had had that? It doesn't bear thinking about."

Wayne claims KFC told him on on 24 July they had received the meat and it would be frozen ahead of a test on August 25, but he says they have since told him it was now "too mouldy" to test.

He added: "After sending off the picture to KFC and the maggot like they asked, they've now said the investigation has collapsed because of a mix up.

"It's disgraceful, I need answers because this could happen to somebody else."

A KFC spokesperson said: "We are very sorry for Wayne's experience. There was a breakdown in the escalation of this issue from the store to the customer care team and we are now investigating as a matter of the utmost importance."
